Suggested Itinerary
Welcome to Istanbul
Settle into the historic, vibrant streets of Istanbul and begin your immersive journey into the city's unique relationship with its feline residents.
☀️ DAY 1 – ARRIVAL IN ISTANBUL
🔸Start: Arrival at Istanbul Airport or Sabiha Gökçen Airport and private transfer to the hotel.
🔸Highlights: Guests arrive in Istanbul and settle into their hotel, ideally located in the Galata, Beyoğlu, or Cihangir area. This gives the group a charming, walkable base with cafés, historic streets, independent shops, and plenty of Istanbul’s famous street cats nearby. No formal touring is planned today to keep the arrival day light and flexible.
Old City Cats & Ottoman Heritage
Explore the historic heart of Istanbul, Sultanahmet, discovering how community-supported cats are woven into the spiritual and architectural fabric of the city.
☀️ DAY 2 – OLD CITY CATS, OTTOMAN HERITAGE & SACRED SPACES
🔸Start: Hotel breakfast, followed by a guided transfer or short coach ride to Sultanahmet.
🔸Highlights: The day begins in Istanbul’s historic heart, where cats are part of the daily rhythm around mosques, courtyards, cafés, and monuments. The group explores the Hippodrome, Blue Mosque area, Hagia Sophia exterior and surroundings, and selected historic lanes with a local guide who connects the city’s feline culture to Ottoman urban life, religious ideas of cleanliness and compassion, and the tradition of community-supported street animals. The tour can include stories of famous mosque cats such as Gli, the beloved Hagia Sophia cat, as well as time for photography and gentle observation. The cultural focus should remain respectful: cats are not treated as props, but as part of the living city. In the afternoon, continue to Topkapi Palace or the Basilica Cistern, depending on timing and ticket availability, before returning to the hotel.
Galata & Cihangir Cat Culture
Wander through the European-side neighborhoods of Galata and Cihangir, visiting the local Cat Museum and witnessing the incredible care locals provide to their neighborhood felines.
☀️ DAY 3 – GALATA, CIHANGIR & THE ART OF ISTANBUL’S CATS
🔸Start: Hotel breakfast, followed by a walking tour from the hotel area.
🔸Highlights: Today focuses on the European-side neighborhoods where Istanbul’s cat culture feels especially visible and intimate. Begin with Galata’s historic streets, artisan shops, and cat-friendly corners. Visit the Cat Museum in Galata, which presents cats through art and also supports street animal welfare through its shop and project model. Continue toward Cihangir, one of the city’s most atmospheric cat neighborhoods. The walk combines street photography, café culture, local stories, and a guided look at how residents feed, shelter, and care for cats in everyday life. This can include a stop at a cat-friendly café or local coffeehouse, with a short hosted conversation about responsible interaction with street cats. Optional activity: a small-group “Cats of Istanbul” photo challenge, where guests capture details such as food bowls, cat houses, shop cats, mosque cats, and cats in historic doorways. The result can be shared over coffee as a light group moment.
Ferry Crossing & Asian Side Exploration
Cross the Bosphorus to Kadıköy and Moda on the Asian side, discovering a relaxed seaside neighborhood defined by human-animal coexistence and community animal welfare.
☀️ DAY 4 – ASIAN SIDE: KADIKÖY, MODA & COMMUNITY CAT CULTURE
🔸Start: Hotel breakfast, followed by a ferry crossing to Kadıköy.
🔸Highlights: The group crosses the Bosphorus by public ferry or private boat, turning the transfer into part of the experience. On arrival in Kadıköy, explore the market streets, food shops, bookshops, murals, and neighborhood corners where cats are part of everyday local life. Continue to Moda, one of Istanbul’s most relaxed and cat-friendly districts. The tour can include a guided neighborhood walk, Turkish tea or coffee, local pastries, and a gentle storytelling layer around Istanbul as a city of coexistence: humans, animals, food vendors, fishermen, mosques, markets, and waterfront life. A meaningful optional addition would be a pre-arranged visit or talk with a local animal welfare volunteer, cat-feeding community member, or rescue-support initiative. This should be handled respectfully and not marketed as “voluntourism.” A small donation from the group or an included welfare contribution could make the theme more authentic. Return to the European side by ferry in the late afternoon.
Farewell Istanbul
Conclude your cats & culture tour of Istanbul with lasting memories of the city's unique charm, warmth, and beloved street animals.
☀️ DAY 5 – DEPARTURE FROM ISTANBUL
